The Living Room
MWM Interior Design
This is home : The little details make all the difference.
For some time, I have been wanting to introduce an interior design aspect to Moments with Mav but never felt the timing was right until now. Before we bought our house, I knew we would embark on the journey of minimalist home decor. I am not afraid to say that I used to have the tendency to hoard things. For this reason, I watched a few minimalist home videos to encourage myself to turn from my sinful ways lol. My husband, on the other hand, would gladly throw things away. The Lord knew I needed a man like him in my life; we balance each other out. Sometimes his approach is the right way and other times my approach is useful. In conclusion, we make a great team.
Disclaimer: I have never attended an interior or exterior design school, but I consider myself a creative person, well my husband tells me that all the time, so I have accepted it. I normally like to look at things or watch videos that interest me, then later on I come up with my own unique design. A little help from other creative minds goes a long way. So, with that said, this page will be about some of the designs I have come up with in relation to our home decor. As many people can relate, home decor never seems to come to an end when you move. There is always something else to be done.
We’ve been in our house for just over a year and I would say that the only rooms I feel fully satisfied with, in terms of decorations, is the living room and the kitchen and oh the main bathroom. My brain is forever thinking of ways to make things look better. So, ladies and gentlemen, if interior or exterior design does interest you then please come on this journey with me and let us look at some ideas together.
Ps: I do not have a stash of money lying around to be forever buying items for the purpose of designing our home so please do not expect that from me. This page will be very realistic. I am an ordinary girl with an extraordinary Heavenly Father who decided to bless us with this house we now call home. In everything I do, my desire is to honour Him and give Him all the glory He deserves.
So, without further ado, let us begin…
These images are our living room.
Our living room was designed with minimalism in mind. We wanted it to be cosy, bright and homely but most importantly clutter free. The general colour scheme of our home is white, hence the white walls, although we had no choice in this decision lol. The property came with white walls, most new built properties do but we embraced it and we love it! Grey, again we had no choice in this colour scheme. The carpets, the grey kitchen cupboards and the grey flooring all came with the property. O how we absolutely love it though. The Lord knew. Gold: Gold was part of our wedding colour scheme; gold communicates elegance and so does black. Hence white, grey, gold and black.
We knew we wanted plants in our home especially since my husband got me into plants in our previous home. I also learned that certain plants purify the air which is a bonus for us. Anything healthy is a bonus. We picked up other colours that we thought would go with our theme, of which most of them do.
You may ask me, did you go to the shops one day and pick up everything you needed? I wish we had that kind of funds lol. On the rare occasion when we do, I have found that we never seem to find what we have in mind which can make shopping a little frustrating. Naturally I love shopping; I do not mind looking around in a shop for a couple of hours searching for unique things. Hence my love for TK Maxx and Lidl - random lol.
I know some people can’t stand TK Maxx but I simply love that shop. They really need to give me some shares as the way I promote their shop is unreal. Aside from finding unique items from TK Maxx, I love the quality of their products, when you find what you are looking for of course. NB: Sometimes some of their products may come with defects so do examine the products well before purchase. Lidl also tends to sell lovely products and their products tend to last for a very long time, like this lamp. I am sure we’ve had it for almost 2 years.
In the next blog I will go into details as to how often I visit these shops and I will touch on budgeting. Although I am not an expert, I love my bargains so stay tuned. I hope this has been helpful to you! Check out the video for a close-up view of the interior decor and rational behind some of our choices.
Remain blessed, love Mav
